Hiya folks who I may already know,

I'm Meredith or MSJ! In my 20s, AF vet, at undergrad college 5/5 (long story), consuming knowledge about nature and disasters since 2004.

My research focus is TC RI and storm surge.

I shoot everything you see with my phone (SE) or my mom’s Canon EOS 350D.

Goods stuff here. We really need to be talking about this topic more. I obviously talk a lot about climate change issues. But this subsidence problem (for Houston & many other places) is also a very, very big deal -- *especially* when compounded by climate change issues.
Multiple Houston suburbs are sinking fast as a rapidly growing population is creating rising demands for groundwater. Here are the billion-dollar solutions Texas officials are working on to mitigate this mostly irreversible phenomenon.

Here's the aurora at regular speed last night in Anchorage, AK. This is my favorite type of aurora, fast moving with pink/white tones at the bottom of green curtains. 😍

So, skeptical of a screen shot from Twitter, I went through and translated his actual speech myself and it goes WAY HARDER THAN THE SCREEN SHOT SUGGESTS

he mixes in the history of Colombia into the drug cartels and Bernie Moreno into Jeffrey Epstein, it's wild, wild stuff

Prohibited activities include advising Chinese graduate students. For reference, a recent Georgetown report estimated 16% of STEM graduate students in the US are Chinese nationals.

This would take out entire fields at the knees, which is perhaps the point.

Anything interesting on the docket tomorrow morning?

Probably more on the mens side than the womens. BYU and NC State are in different regions, so are Florida and Oregon. Nothing new to learn there. That one, thanks to a lot of schedule finagling, will have to be settled at NCAAs.
Legally obliged to inform @sickoscommittee.org that if anyone needs something to do tomorrow morning...

It's Regionals day for D1 Cross Country!

South will be livestreamed starting at 8:30AM, Midwest will start at 9AM

I've been on the road so I'm behind the times—but if you wanted to destroy US science, I can think of no more expedient action.

Blatant unconstitutionality aside, fuck this backwards forwards and sideways.

Here's 1 of 2500+ photos I took last night. My camera is looking south south east. The aurora way brighter and faster last night compared to what I saw the previous night. This is just a teaser, as I have a lot of aurora content that is crunching on my computer now.

The goal of this, btw, is to reduce the independence conferred by tenure. Tenure is designed to prevent *exactly this kind* of political interference. I think they've decided that they can't get rid of tenure, so this is the next best thing.

If you have to get permission to teach in your area of expertise from people who are definitionally not qualified to adjudicate your expertise then you are no longer working at a university.

You’re working at a state propaganda factory.
