The defendants were accused of knowing when certain players would be sitting out or leaving a game early, allowing them to set up the fraudulent bets. For example, in March 2023, when Mr. Rozier was a starting guard for the Charlotte Hornets, he let other gamblers know that he would leave a game early so that they could bet on the game and make hundreds of thousands of dollars that they later split with him, said Jessica Tisch, the commissioner of the New York Police Department.
