Read 1984 as a teen, found it profound and disturbing but - whew! - just a work of fiction. Fifty years later I reread it before election. Gawd it hit hard. Newspeak, doublespeak, revisionist history, fueling fear, disappearing people, oppressive surveillance. Reread Timothy Snyder - very helpful.

Strong feelings here about this...my teen years (like my whole life) were charmed. I still remember how hard it was anyway. Please, please, never say anything so potentially hurtful to a youngster.
