Ruffles the feathers of most things Winnipeg related
A pretty open and back-and-forth 1st, Jets dominated in the 2nd (which is rare on its own), and then sat on the lead in the 3rd. Scoring PPGs is good and I’m glad they finally remembered how to do it. But make no mistake, it was a game between two bad teams.

CFL doesn’t like to have any big news stories that doesn’t involve the teams playing in the Cup, and I’m sure Wade Miller is busy with the whole festival altogether - so this is an interesting development

In 2024-25, they never were worse than -5 xG at 5v5 cumulative on the season - only got as low as -4.15 in December. Jets are now at -8.32 xG.

Seemed to always trying to be the second person in to win a puck battle, but you don’t add a third - especially below the goal line - and leave the inner slot wide open.

A couple of pucks the dribbled to the edge of the net in the 1st period and in the flurry of chances at the end, but Jets essentially got severely outplayed the second half of the game. Arniel’s line blender did zilch. Too many players couldn’t keep up with SJS’s young guns when they pressed.

The most important crossover happening in Canada right now:

“Hot take! I like the Jets better without Ehlers.”

Uhh… *tugs at collar*

Can I get a hell yeah

The rope-a-dope strategy, except it’s Hellebuyck making opponents look like dopes

Folks, I regrettably have to inform you that unsurprisingly, it got even worse

>Jets habits of falling asleep in the 2nd period seems to be a continuing trend
>Arniel sat Chibrikov for a couple of shifts in the 2nd and 3rd… but he’s so clearly driving the only offence in the middle 6 at the moment, so that’s a self-own
>Flukey goals - but goals nonetheless from the top line
October 11, 2025 at 8:36 PM
Missed most of the first two periods and caught glimpses of the 3rd:
>Arniel using last change to have his 1st line and pairing against LAK’s third pair went as expected
>All other Jets lines got dunked on: especially two bad shifts by Namestnikov’s line against Byfield (5CA and 4CA, back-to-back)
October 11, 2025 at 8:36 PM
Jets have had essentially one, maybe two good shifts all game - power play included. They’ve flatlined since the start of the 2nd period. Full on yikes

Yeah, lol

If you noticed earlier, I intentionally separated KC81 as a great player - but not an elite one. He is now getting paid like Marner and Rantanen, and has been overpaid in a market that needed to keep him like Kaprizov. Even just by pure individual counting or rates, Connor doesn’t match up.
October 8, 2025 at 2:42 PM
He doesn’t necessarily create offence, but is the finishing touch to the Jets offence. What is worrisome to me is that over the last 3 years, we haven’t really seen if he can continue doing that without Scheifele, and now without Vilardi too. 842min without 55 is <25% of his total 5v5 TOI. Scary.
October 8, 2025 at 2:42 PM
KC81 gets paid because he puts the puck into the net /a lot/, and that is a very valuable skill in the NHL against the best of the best goaltenders. His ability to tilt the ice in order to create that amount of chances, however, has been in question

Endorsed by Russ Wyatt, btw

You’re right in that the Jets forwards are clearly intended to be the top 6 offence / bot 6 defence split - but the current health and structure of their def pairs will make it challenging. Arniel clearly had 44-2 for offence and 54-4 for defence, and everyone else on-the-fly.

On Samberg: “…he’s gonna miss time, but it’s not a worst case scenario.” Doesn’t put a timeline on it, but says it’s good news based on worry.

On Connor: “…there’s real willingness on both sides to do something - I heard that one is going to be structure” (sorting out bonuses and such)

Ah yes, it’ll be fun to cheer for the Carolina Hurricanes, those “bunch of jerks”, now with Tulsky at the helm and the exciting, fan-favourite Ehlers joining the team! *gets passed a note* We regret to inform you…

One (1) completion. In the first half. In a CFL game. Lmao.

The Fall season and “early-to-mid October” isn’t that far away. Sure would be nice for the province to start communicating about the program rollout bsky.app/profile/jenn...
