Met up with one my birding groups and to my dismay Wicked was the topic of conversation. The horror on everyone’s face when I admitted to walking out of the show during intermission. Then everyone admitted they’d only listened to the soundtrack and never seen the musical before the movies came out.

Not going to lie, I’d definitely use a cheese plate to communicate my displeasure. I once bought souvenirs for every co-worker (except one) while on vacation just to enjoy the moment he realized he was the only one without a gift. It did inspire him to actually apologize to me, which was a bonus.
one of my uncles is banned from thanksgiving after he brought a giant spread of artisanal cheese, engaged in a planned confrontation with my cousins who were hosting and called them assholes, and then left and TOOK THE CHEESE AWAY

If you’re interested in labor or music history, this is fascinating. As someone who listened to Billy Bragg’s album Talking with the Taxman about Poetry a thousand times in high school, I couldn’t click on the articles fast enough.
110 years ago today, Utah executed labor organizer and songwriter Joe Hill, whose critique of capitalist greed continues to inspire artists and galvanize activists to this day.
Learn more about Hill and his impact through this project The Tribune launched to mark the 100th anniversary of his death.

The Legacy of Joe Hill: Did Utah execute an innocent man by firing squad on Nov. 19, 1915? A century later, Joe Hill inspires artists and galvanizes activists.

Absolutely my favorite player to watch this season. What a game! Only downside is it’s the last Audi home game this year (I wish we’d stop doing neutral site Finals).

That’s our keeper!
37.5% - In penalty shootouts in all competitions for #NWSL teams, Aubrey Kingsbury has saved 37.5% of the on-target penalties she has faced (9/24). All other goalkeepers have combined to save just 17.2% (20/116). Different.

My voice is completely gone. Nothing in the world like the relief of winning in the penalty shootout.

I love that baseball is such an orderly sport that I can record the events of a game on a sheet of paper and also the sport that produces the most insane combinations of events to the point where players, announcers, and the most fanatical spectators get utterly bewildered.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The last two series, shellackings though they were, involved the White Sox facing playoffs teams, which lent a sort of pre-installed intensity to the preceedings. Not the case here ...

As an early aughts graduate, I’ve always had such dissonance between my love of the Core/faculty and my hatred of the administration. They were obviously evil then and every revelation since I graduated reveals that they were/are even more evil and incompetent than I believed in ´03.
the crisis in which the University of Chicago is now engulfed -- one entirely of its own making, and which has led to the (hopefully temporary) suspension of admissions into numerous PhD programs in the humanities -- represents I think a seismic event in the history of American higher education

In DC, the Spirit haven't just narrowed the gap in terms of popularity & relevance, they may well have eliminated it.
