looking for something tender and evocative and (most importantly) gay to read this weekend? DON’T FORGET TO BREATHE, our autistic-as-hell sapphic YA is available right the heck now: a.co/d/dLYndhl
I get that there are degrees but tbqh no child is the child you order. there is no way any child will naturally match up to or meet the expectations of their parents even 70% of the time. kids are constantly surprising, good and bad, and that’s just part of parenting.
some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.

like i have been saying, if you have ADHD you should be standing with trans people on their medical rights for basic moral and solidarity reasons but also the practical reason that you can fight at their barricade or you can fight at ours but it's the same fight
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

Alan Moore really was 110% right when he said you need to read bad books as well as good if you want to write better. I have become far more invested in the material lives of my characters after some of the bourgeoise bullshit I read this year.

the ecological impact is brutal. not just the clear-cutting and construction of new neighborhoods, but the insistence of botanical uniformity, the pervasive and constant pesticide, the light pollution from porch lights/flood lights/Christmas lights confusing the birds and bats.
I've lived in the suburbs for about five years now and I'm increasingly convinced that it's the most culturally pathological category of American life - full of addiction issues, white-collar crime, and above all, mediocrity masquerading as accomplishment and virtue. That last part is what I hate.

For all my issues with Netflix it does seem to still be run by people who have a modicum of interest in supporting artists
I think the Netflix deal is ultimately better for movies and for WB than a Paramount deal (which I 100% believe would end WB) or a Comcast deal (which would take the two best-functioning studios in Hollywood and reduce them to one). I'm open to arguments, but "None of the above" isn't one.

more dead kids as republican policy part 39428034
A federal advisory panel with power over vaccine policy has voted to stop recommending a universal newborn shot to prevent the hepatitis B virus, which causes liver disease — a major shakeup to the childhood vaccine schedule under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Vaccine advisory panel votes to end universal newborn hep B shot in major shakeup
Parents appear to be able to continue to get the hep B vaccine for their kids, but the move could cause confusion among families and logistical barriers for health providers.

look competition-based free-market capitalism can be really problematic but it’s better than when competition—and therefore choice and autonomy and informed consent—is just fully fucking eliminated

For those not in those circles, I just need to remind you that losing a job to AI is not a vibes based idea. We are being told explicitly by art directors that we are being weighed against AI for jobs, people on teams fighting against the AD and you. It sucks. It’s demoralizing.
