Yes, even in “"'liberal'"” New York, prisoners can legally be paid as little as a dime an hour. Less than a dollar for eight hours of work.
There is a reason that people who want to abolish prisons are called abolitionists. Prisons are modern-day slavery.

Ram's Horn Galls caused by the wasp Andricus aries spotted in Middlesbrough today. Never recorded this far north before (species.nbnatlas.org/species/NHMS...).
