It's become clear that this administration is just a protracted war on anybody who's read a book without pictures in it. It's a miracle we're all still getting up and going to work every morning. The psychological drain is the point, and I'm increasingly grateful to the people who are still decent.

As with the evisceration of USAID, this is appallingly short-sighted and will impact foreign relations and higher education for decades to come.

I visited Auschwitz as a sixteen-year-old. After 35 years, I still remember certain displays with vivid clarity—piles of shoes pulled from feet small and large, hanks of hair shorn from victims, a haphazard pile of crutches and artificial limbs...
