Since I joined at the beginning of the year, I have felt a lot better about the world and my place in it.

Is DSA perfect? Of course not! But our chapter is deeply committed to helping people step up and make a difference in our community. You don't have to be rich. You don't have to have a poli sci degree. It's politics BY us, based on real, democratic principle.

Now I know I could have, but why wasn't there anyone reaching out to me, a motivated community member? Why was the message consistently "leave it to the pros, rube"?
When I joined @portlanddsa.bsky.social, I was immediately invited to an orientation session. People called me to help me get settled.

For more than 20 years, I've been a registered Democrat who asked over and over how I could get more involved, and the answer was always "send money." Occasionally I got asked to volunteer stuffing envelopes.
I never got invited to come down to my county Dems office and join in the meetings.

Right??? I was very nervous.
But now I'm quite jolly. I wouldn't mind never seeing Kim Davis's face ever again, though.

Yikes. USDA sent threatening letter to states telling them that if they sent out EBT money —which many states did during the window when a lower court said SNAP funds had to be released—they have to take it back (?)
Trying to sort out what this means and if states even can claw back the funds
