It’s an interesting look at regional culinary tastes of the period, as well as being a bipartisan product that could never be duplicated today - Kennedy and Humphrey recipes live with Thurmond, Wallace and Faubus recipes. (@hcrichardson.bsky.social Maine is particularly well represented).

The last, “Who’s Who in the Kitchen” was published in 1965 by “Gold Star Wives of America, Inc,” and features a number of historical culinary novelties from politicians and celebrities of the period.

When my wife and I were younger, we avidly collected self-published church, junior league, community and organizational cookbooks, until one day we realized “enough is too much” and purged most of them. The remainder survive mostly out of a sense of novelty, personal affiliation, or usefulness.

I love this film so much. The ending scene - choreographed to Bernard Herrmann’s “Concerto Macabre” - is a thing of grotesque perfection, featuring one of the most effective eye closeups in cinema history.
