tourguidebrice🐈🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿The Scottish Fold, and why Scotland has so many dog breeds and hardly any cat breeds. 🚨🚨🚨 Important: The Scottish fold is actually banned from being bred in certain countries, due to health concerns stemming from their genetic mutation that causes painful osteochondrodysplasia - severe degenerative joint disease, arthritis, and chronic pain. Cute appearance vs short and painful lives. No debate really. 🐈 Sidenote: The Scottish fold is the only domestic breed of cat in Scotland. I'm more than aware of the Scottish Wildcat - that merits its own video.When Scottish Folds are ethically bred with a non-Scottish fold (UK/US short-hairs), there is a 50/50 chance the kittens will inherit the genetic mutation resulting in folded ears. If the kittens don't inherit the gene, they are referred to as Scottish Straights. A couple of cat organisations classify this as its own distinct breed, but the majority don't. The world of what is and isn't considered a breed can get rather pernickety the deeper you go into it. But, nonetheless, that is why I said in the video "Scotland’s one cat breed".
