I had the best time at the @asleuki.bsky.social conference in Galway this last week. It was my first conference let alone first time giving a paper and the feedback was warm and encouraging. ASLE UKI have cultivated a lovely bunch of weirdos.

Finally got my film developed from my trip to M. R. James’ childhood home, Great Livermere. I think I’d be good at ghost stories too if I grew up here #ghosts #mrjames #suffolk

Finally made my pilgrimage to M. R. James’ childhood home, with the graves of the Mothersole family (thankfully I disturbed!)

Guess who has two thumbs and is speaking at (and attending) their first conference. 👍 This guy 👍! If you’re at all interested in ghost stories, coastal erosion, lichen, tombstones etc etc then come along to the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment conference in Galway this August!

I feel almost lame for how much I dug Nosferatu. Not what I expected from Eggers but very fun

We strongly endorse this call from @slowwaysuk.bsky.social to introduce a right to access field edges. This is a key component of the wider right to roam in Scotland, facilitating landscape connectivity and providing safe off-road passage through the countryside.

BLOG POST: What to watch next if, like me, you wish there were at least a hundred more of those 1970s BBC ghost stories for Christmas. 🎞📽

The infinite supply of BBC ghost stories for Christmas
There are only eight episodes of the BBC Ghost Story for Christmas, produced between 1971 and 1978. That’s not enough. Here are some suggestions for where to go next. First, let’s address a technic…

One of my favourite episodes, about one of my favourite ghost story writers, with one of my favourite contemporary authors. Just a lot going on there
S1 E5: Our guest was Andrew Michael Hurley (Barrowbeck, Starve Acre, The Loney) and we discussed 'And No Bird Sings' by E. F. Benson.

Andrew will join me on a LIVE episode of the podcast on Wed 18 Dec. Tickets are available now - pay whatever you wish!

occurred to me this morning that if any small farmers are hurt by the inheritance tax changes, it's as a direct result of rich twats like Clarkson exploiting a loophole & driving up land prices

they should have a fucking tractor parade outside his house every morning

he is their enemy, and yet...
Both in the news today for differing reasons. Michael Sheen who remortgaged his house to fund the Homeless World Cup, Jeremy Clarkson who bought a farm to evade tax.
