General ramblings of a quiet, middle-aged, left-leaning, abundantly-caffeinated British woman who reads a *lot*, writes a little, and has far too many geekish interests.
I don't auto-follow-back, and don't expect it of others either.

So *that's* why the cheese is so much less satisfying than usual. I mistakenly picked up mature rather than extra mature. Damn.
*sigh*
*eyeroll*
*grumble*

Word of the day is ‘swullocking’, from 19th-century East Anglian dialect: sultry, sweltering, and sudiferous (sweat-inducing).

My character, exploring and evaluating her new world, musing that at least there's 'indoor plummeting'. 🥴

Thanks for that, fingers. I think you meant 'indoor plumbing'.

In my defence, it's nearly 30C in here and the air feels like hot soup. 🫠 I'm impressed my typing isn't *worse*!

Almost every time I've looked out the window this afternoon, I've seen red kites soaring in lazy circles above the side of the hill. It's certainly a nice day for it. I'm quite envious of them!

You know your short-sightedness is getting worse when you mistake a sweater bundled up on a chair for a curled-up cat. Especially when you don't *have* a cat 🤨🥴

Whatever weird twist of evolution enabled the body to both hiccup and sneeze at the same time can sod off. 😵🥴

eight years ago today we all watched the glory of zendaya falling madly in love with tom holland and the internet was never the same

Typing up some handwritten scribblings of a fairly tense, serious scene, the words I was trying to type:

"Stand fast and meet your fate."

What emerged was,

"Stand fast and meet your face."

🙃 The power of one letter to destroy a tense and serious mood!

I adore this, though I can't help but wonder if they edited out the foul language from the wren and the robin in particular!😆
WORLD-FIRST: Ground-breaking research published today in the Ornithologist Journal has, for the first time, translated common UK bird vocalisations into equivalent phrases in the human language.

The results tell us a lot!

Hmm. I seem to be at the point in my creative process in which plot points for a new story have amassed sufficiently that the thing starts to coalesce under its own gravity, and I now need to map everything out to a timeline so it all unfolds in the right order and at the right pace.

"Ask Microsoft Copilot to find tasty breakfasts that fuel your day," my PC login screen offers this morning. Why would I do that when AI can't be trusted not to suggest or concoct anything inedible at best, or outright toxic at worst? I'll just do the legwork myself and ignore AI offerings entirely.

Thanks, brain. The exact dream to wake up from to fill me with enthusiasm for my day is an "it's a cold rainy evening at the bus stop, bus is coming, but I can't find my purse so I have to watch everyone else get on and the bus leaves while I'm left standing there".
Perfect...

Reviewing the WIP to remind myself of where I'd gotten to, and found my main character had 'hoovered above the apex' 🥴
No, she *hovered*, there was absolutely no vacuuming going on in this scene!

I mean, we could try putting another weasel in the Large Hadron Collider just to see if that resets the timeline

I sighed again. I was having a lot of opportunities to do it and I think I was getting good at it.

I was in a deep fiction reading slump for a good portion of 2024, so this year I've decided to declare war on my TBR pile as well as to get more use out of the local library app.
I must be doing something right, because I've already finished 6 books this year. Hopefully I can continue that pace.

Just finished re-watching Stargate: Universe and now have the wonderful music from the end of the final episode echoing around my brain, all wistful and pensive. Not necessarily the best mood in which to go to bed, but oh well.

In an attempt to start to retrain my sleep cycle from recent bad habits, I've gone to bed 'early'.
And now I'm wide awake. 🙄

Ah, middle-age.
First-thing this morning, before I'd even gotten out of bed, I sneezed.
As a result, my shoulder's felt strained *all* day.

Zero. I'm soooo old... 🥴
One. I wasn’t cool enough to record music from the radio.
