My choice (option B)

Decision to Leave (2022) follows a detective who meets a mysterious woman while investigating her husband's death in the mountains

Moody and ambiguous with an icy femme fatale, this is a love letter to noir films. Beautifully shot and composed

The Lighthouse (2019) is a tale of two lighthouse keepers attempting to maintain their sanity while living on remote New England island in the 1890s

Strange and moody, terrific acting and atmosphere. A weird one that I truly enjoyed! (I'm a week late, but I digress) 🤫

Several attempts were made to say smth about how tiring and stressful the last two weeks(?) have been, and I keep throwing them in the bin because I don't think they're good or helpful

Anyway, I'm putting the mood out there in hopes it will dissipate ✌️

L's choice (option A)

Yi Yi (2000) is an unfolding tale of the lives of the Jian family from alternating perspectives

Excellent acting and cinematography, calm and patient narrative execution. (Tbh, this one didn't resonate with me, I didn't find it compelling, and I kind of wish I did? Oh well)

My choice (option B)

Mad Max Fury Road (2015) follows Max joining forces with Furiosa against Immortan Joe and his army, leading to a lengthy road battle in a post-apocalyptic desert wasteland

I'm a sucker for car chases, and this one goes pretty hard, a real spectacle unto itself

Millennium Actress (2001) follows two documentary filmmakers interviewing a retired acting legend, and blurred lines between cinema and reality ensue

You can tell that a lot of thought was put into each frame, it's seamlessly edited. Touching and bittersweet and emotional

My coworker who also works at UPS sends me subliminal messages occasionally, I wonder what he's listening to 🤔🤔

No Country For Old Men (2007). When a hunter discovers the grisly aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong, he can't resist taking the cash, and is pursued by a merciless hitman and an aging sheriff

Stellar performances, tight editing, absorbing and tense plot, it's so good

My choice (option A)

Farewell My Concubine (1993) depicts China's tumultuous history through the 20th century, focusing on two young Peking opera actors' maturation on and off the stage

Detailed, elaborate, stunning costumes, magnificent visuals. Also pretty LGBTQ, how did this get made??
