Today marks 1 year since the deadly & devastating Nov. 19, 2024 Bomb Cyclone, a record-tying 942 mb low offshore, bringing intense easterly gap winds to the Cascade foothills and metro areas. The storm brought many areas their worst damage since 2006. What do you remember? #wawx

October 2025 temperature departure from normal using Prism climate data. 🔥🔥🔥

After an anomalously wet October, predominately dry and mild weather will take over for the first week of November. A few systems may try to sneak through, but it appears that a majority of the precipitation will remain north of our area. Increased storminess looks possible later in the month. #nvwx

Haven't been on this app in a year. Is this thing on?

I don't have words.

I'm sorry for y'all. For science. For our country.

Do we have a weather jobs hashtag on here to help some people get back on their feet? #WxJobs or something? #wxsky

This storm has delivered so far! 5-6 inches in Ashland and still snowing as of 4:30 PM. Multiple trees down.
Winter storm warning remains in effect until 10 PM this evening with an additional 2-5 inches expected. Freezing temperatures tonight will make driving hazardous.

Snowing in Ashland, where models have been teasing snow totals of over a FOOT by Monday night. Winter storm warning goes into effect at 4 PM this afternoon. #orwx #winterstorm

The party of free speech sure loves censorship doesn't it
To comply with Trump's executive order on DEI, workers at NOAA have been instructed to deactivate specific agency materials containing the following keywords, per memos I obtained:

This move is going to be detrimental to communities that will inevitably be ravaged by worsening climate change. It is so hard to remain optimistic right now.

You fuckers are sleeping on Jupiter’s moons. I don’t want to ever hear one more person whine about Pluto if they can’t tell me a single fact about the in-every-way-superior Ganymede.

As someone in college for climate and public health research, seeing the new administration withdraw policy is disheartening and frustrating. Today, I used NOAA's climate explorer to model several different projections and highlight the importance of climate research and common-sense policy. (1/)

The 18z GFS is showing some insane snow totals in early February as a parade of systems marches across the PNW and NorCal. This obviously won't happen, but one can dream 🥹❄️ #orwx #wxsky #pnw

That is a remarkably dry air mass for Peachtree City, GA, with a precipitable water value of 0.05", partially thanks to the extremely cold air mass for the region (15°F sfc temp). Record dry territory per SPC sounding climatology.

After a prolonged dry stretch, deterministic models are finally hinting at a wetter (though any rain would be wetter) and possibly cooler pattern toward the end of January into February. It appears that some rain may grace the SW US as well, though confidence is low at this time. Fingers crossed!

Last night's long-range GFS was one of the most beautiful model runs that I have ever seen. No point in going into detail about the specifics of the model run other than the potential for colder air at the end of the month is remaining and increasing still. This deserved to be put in the Louvre!

Winds are CRANKING here at my house in NW Reno. A nearby weather station reported an 87 mph gust. It sounds like there is some wind damage as I have heard shingles flap and fences creak. Wow! #nvwx

Wish I had the mindset of “throw yourself into your work” but I study climate change and public health, two things that were thoroughly repudiated with last night’s results. Hard to get motivated to trudge forward with that at the moment!

Science friends in the U.S.: we have two months to make sure data, code, and websites are saved somewhere securely. This isn't going to be pretty.

I think it is worth noting that we are fucked. Trump is going to repeal climate protections and make this so, so much worse - not to mention potentially privatizing NOAA. With GOP control of the House and Senate, things will be much easier for him. What a sad day.

During trump 1.0, we had to pull down all of the climate change pages off the EPA website. Start archiving shit now, document, backup, photograph, whatever you need to do.
