I'd quite happily take replacing McSweeney with one of his deputies and catapulting Ed M into the Treasury...

Exactly this! You can have no councillors and still get a hell of a lot done with a 150 seat majority in the Commons. And if you can't make people's lives better under those conditions with 4 years left on the clock, it's not clear why anybody should vote for you...

The Tories are very good at this! And, historically, winning. These things are connected.

Especially this! Cf failing to stand up in defence of ILR or turning off Contact Creator in "unwinnable" seats; when you are a party of the centre left, punching the left then expecting the left to help you doorknock is a strat that only gets you so far!

Spenny but utterly banging, and on the line: Noto. Crab butter was life changing. Great venue for an anniversary.

I think he did relatively well given how much of a target the costume department kept putting on his back

No reason to hide traitor hunting when there's no murders left! If Joe had just been open he could've won Nick and David's trust

I'm sorry to say that, while you're constitutionally correct, in terms of power dynamics the boss is and has been since 2021 Morgan McSweeney.

Feel we should actually be blaming No 10's briefing team here. If there's a predictable story in the headlines, every minister should be given the line. Here surely "the Democrats are our progressive sister party so we're delighted he's won but I'm not super familiar with his politics or campaign"

I think there is also a kernel of truth in "authenticity is good, actually". Keir Starmer the human rights lawyer has essentially the correct take on racism and if he had been allowed to say it 2 months ago he'd be in less trouble than he is now.

Also tbf Bridget would top my ranking of "Cabinet members who totally ignore social media and just let the team handle the posting"

Sadly, the minister responsible for the BBC is a Conservative (or at least must be a mole for them given how much enablement she's doing on their behalf...)

Thanks for this really clear and level-headed explanation of how extremist & activist the EHRC has been in misinterpreting the Supreme Court decision. Hopefully a signal that the Equalities Minister will be reining in their dangerous, divisive behaviour! 🤞

The reality is we have the highest tax burden in our history, large and increasingly expensive public debt, and yet *low* taxes on average earners vs historical trend.

If we want better public services, *we* need to pay for them. But almost no-one dares to actually say that.
