That's good though, the more pressure the more progressive left can put the government under, the better. They seem to change their policies a lot more based on pressure from the right as it is

Project McSweeney is so wrapped up in its own vision of how to cling to power that it will completely ignore any warning signs associated with heading down the anti-migrant garden path. It is truly depressing and shows what happens when you completely purge people who might challenge your ideology

Very much looking forward to this conversation! George is always such an excellent speaker on environmental matters and I thought his recent book on neoliberalism was a thought provoking read 😁

Oscar Onley could also make that list after his 4th at the Tour

Eloquently put as per usual Guy. It wouldn't surprise me if Keir Starmer had absolutely no interest in this. He strikes me as a technocratic middle manager who really has no opinion on anything as profound as the beauty in our natural world.

What age are you classifying as 'young millennials'?

I'm not sure how AI would even work in this context, but even if it could, at that point everyone will be on benefits anyway because it will be intelligent enough to take virtually all jobs

The good news is that the rest of the world is moving towards renewables, even if that ghoul is in the pocket of the fossil fuel lobby. Annoyingly it seems those industries won't go down without a fight though!

There was economic turmoil in pre-Nazi Germany tho. It was similar in that the far right met genuine challenges with identity politics. An interesting argument I heard recently from Lea Ypi is that far right politics is always just about establishing who's in vs who's out (woke, lefties, etc.)

All these supposed "good news" investment stories with the US are just megacorps coming to take more from the UK. As far as I can tell the Microsoft AI investment is just for them to put data centres over here. Presumably because they want to rinse UK water/energy now they've done it in the US

But what about the freedom of speech? 😂

Geraint hasn't had a bad crash since like 2021

Giulio Pellizzari is winning this thing!

To be fair, that's relatively decent UCI points for a team like Q36.5
May 23, 2025 at 12:25 PM
How many more are we expecting before the full drop? 😁

Energy is already expensive because it's tied to the gas price. If there's also a carbon capture fee attached then it's only going to make bills go up. More profits for the FF industry though! Why doesn't this bloke just retire rather than coming back to haunt us with his think tank?

These platforms are just designed to make people increasingly divided, appealing to the worst impulses of humanity. I like Bluesky for cycling stuff, but in general the less time you spend on social media, the happier you'll be in my opinion. Love the comms on TNT by the way Jose!

Yeah 😂 To be fair there's no real way Remco is beating Pogi in Fleche, short of a long solo but that wasn't on the cards with the weather today
April 23, 2025 at 3:27 PM
Everyone was on their knees before they even got there. Looks like Pogi/Remco's strategy of making the whole race hard to kill the puncheurs worked quite well
April 23, 2025 at 2:42 PM
I admire your optimism Gytha! 😁
April 23, 2025 at 9:23 AM
Yep agreed, maybe I'm just being a bit impatient. The only thing I think Starmer and co are at risk of doing is trying to pander to Reform voters rather than standing up with a strong alternative story. I think he's slightly naive about the rise of fascism which we've already seen in the US
April 23, 2025 at 8:21 AM
But they're not addressing the major elephant in the room which is growing wealth inequality. They're an improvement on the Tories, but imo they are squandering a major opportunity for radical reform of tax laws/press regulation/social media regulation/political donations to placate capital

Interesting - I guess proponents of LVT would say that it at least makes them do something productive with the land rather than just banking it. I'm not really an expert on trust law etc. but surely it's not beyond the government to close these various loopholes
