To put a bold, underlined point on it: Football fans can tell the obvious falsehood here because they follow football and know a lot about it. But if you don't know a lot about how governance works, this is how incompetent and dishonest they are at and about *everything*
Spinning "a player who was expected to be drafted in the 1st/2nd round fell into the 5th round" as a Donald Trump Success Story is actually a really good example of how things work around there

If China defeated the US in war and forced us to sign a treaty that would ensure a century of Chinese dominion in science and tech, they'd be smart to force the U.S. to:

I'm telling you, of all the ways to articulate the US's many problems, I still believe we primarily have a dummy problem. The electorate is overwhelmingly stupid. It affects almost every aspect of political outcome.
Do these people believe our climate can grow all of our own coffee & bananas? Fruit in winter? Do they think diamonds & rare earth minerals are mined in Iowa?
And are they volunteering to work in a garment factory? Insert the screws in an iPad? Then pay 3x those current prices?
