1958 - Hawes was a self taught pianist, in his teens was already playing with the big names on the west coast. Arrested after this record was made for heroin, they thought he would snitch but he didn't. 10 year sentence but JFK pardoned him in August 1963. Great player!

1939 - White was a first cousin of BB King, and considered one of the progenitors of the blues. He was actually serving time at the MS State Penitentiary ("Parchman Farm") for murder when this one was recorded by John Lomax.
