I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Less than a year after passing, City of Yes is bringing a new industry to New York: Accessory Dwelling Units

“There's no historic industry around building them," said @annemariegray.bsky.social, "so it's a really good chance for a new and diverse generation of builders to get it started.”

The state will pay the $450,000. This, like police brutality settlements, should come out of the assailant's pocket
Cuomo relaunch week ends with $450K settlement reached by state with Brittany Commisso, the former gubernatorial aide who in 2021 leveled what were arguably the most serious sexual harassment allegations against the former governor. Brendan Lyons reports.

Former gubernatorial aide Brittany Commisso settled her lawsuit related to what was seen by many as the most serious sexual harassment allegation against former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.

“ICE gets a bigger budget than the Marine Corps” is a simple fact that should be communicated very widely because it clearly expresses how crazy and radical this is
With this budget, ICE alone would have nearly as large a detention operation as all 50 states' prison systems combined. Bigger budget than the Marine Corps. Police-state levels of spending
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

ICE arrests have skyrocketed in recent days as they go after people who are not convicted of any crimes

What were they actually gonna do here? Ask every brown-enough person for their papers to go to the fucking baseball game?

This is the most slam-dunk, anti-American thing I can think of. You need a passport to go to a Major League Baseball game now? Malpractice not to make a huge deal out of this.
LA DODGERS just now:

“This morning, ICE agents came to Dodger Stadium and requested permission to access the parking lots. They were denied entry to the grounds by the organization. Tonight’s game will be played as scheduled.”

Right on, Dodgers!
More of this, please.

This is how you actually do it. Create a schism between the cops and ICE. Who's really in charge? The answer is neither of them. The people and the courts are in charge, so let them figure this out with each other. Secret police are no one's allies.
"You don't have the authority to arrest US citizens who are asking to see a judicial warrant."

NYC mayoral candidate Brad Lander being arrested *along with a member of his NYPD security team* by ICE.
Here's a longer video of Brad Lander's detention just now inside 26 Federal Plaza as he tried to walk a man out of immigration court, by masked federal agents.

I feel like the conversation around Defund in New York is missing the point - The NYPD wasn't defunded, but the cops responded as thought it was, refusing to do their jobs and creating the appearance that they were was to the incurious. Here's the data from traffic enforcement:
