A few flowering gems alongside an industrial estate in Cinderford. And it’s wonderful to see so many bees, bugs and butterflies enjoying the sunshine. #WildflowerHour #ForestOfDean @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Came across this wonderful large patch of toothwort in Wigpool Nature Reserve. Also in flower were violet, wood sorrel, bluebell and wild garlic but I got rather carried away with the toothwort! #WildflowerHour #WoodlandFlora #ForestOfDean #AncientWoodland

This Tulipa elegans rubra has caught the tulip breaking virus hence the beautiful flame-like stripes. Back in the 17thC this ‘broken’ bulb could fetch more than the price of a house in Amsterdam. For us it’s just a lucky surprise in the garden🌷

It certainly felt like the start of spring this weekend with bursts of colour from primroses, snowdrops, daffodils and purple dead nettle #wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Lovely to see the dam that beavers in the Forest of Dean have built. Such remarkable little animals 🦫😍

Not the best photo but just wanted to share the importance of keeping your garden untidy during the winter so that birds like goldfinches and bullfinches can forage for food. Well that’s my excuse anyway!

A much better haul of wild plants today on the last day of the @bsbibotany.bsky.social #NewYearPlantHunt - Daisy; Periwinkle; Yarrow; Gorse; Primrose; Herb Robert; Ranunculus, Purple Rock Cress & Viburnum. We also spotted these 2 plants but not sure on their ID. Could anyone help?

A much better haul on day 2 of the @bsbibotany.bsky.social #NewYearPlantHunt. Wood Avens, Herb Robert, Buttercup, Ragwort, Bittercress, Dog’s Mercury plus strangely, a Foxglove. It was in flower and intact but lying on its side. Does that count?

Thankfully the fog lifted at last and the sun came out in Cinderford for day 1 of the @bsbibotany.bsky.social #NewYearPlantHunt

A lovely morning walk through Edgehills Nature Reserve in the Forest of Dean where there’s quite a lot of gorse in flower, and the resident Highland cattle seem to be enjoying some much needed sunshine.

Our first Saffron Crocus (crocus sativus) to bloom this autumn! Did you know that saffron is the world’s most expensive spice? Harvested by hand, it takes 150 flowers to produce just one gram!
