Came across this wonderful large patch of toothwort in Wigpool Nature Reserve. Also in flower were violet, wood sorrel, bluebell and wild garlic but I got rather carried away with the toothwort! #WildflowerHour #WoodlandFlora #ForestOfDean #AncientWoodland

This Tulipa elegans rubra has caught the tulip breaking virus hence the beautiful flame-like stripes. Back in the 17thC this ‘broken’ bulb could fetch more than the price of a house in Amsterdam. For us it’s just a lucky surprise in the garden🌷

This scrap of blanket bog nr Callander has nationally scarce Tall Bog-sedge, locally scarce Few-flowered Sedge, and rarely recorded fungus Exobasidium oxycoccii.
But Sitka Spruce is invading from the adjacent plantation - action needed whilst the trees are still small!

Not the best photo but just wanted to share the importance of keeping your garden untidy during the winter so that birds like goldfinches and bullfinches can forage for food. Well that’s my excuse anyway!
