Somerset
Bee-Eaters; the clue is in the name…

Here the male passes a tender, freshly caught Bee to his partner in the hope of getting the chance to mate with her.

Captured in Spain with my guests last week using my OM – 1 mkII and 150-400 mm F4.5 IS Pro Zoom.

In case you missed this, a wonderful European Bee-Eater, photographed with my group in Eastern Spain.

Nothing fancy, it was shot on the OM-1 mkII with the 1 50–400 mm IS pro lens and a shutter speed of 1/4000 second.

Hobbies, 2 weeks ago, Swifts this week. What a treat
May 8, 2025 at 12:44 PM
The Swifts are back and their joyful screaming makes everything feel better!

Is summer really here? My need for a light winter coat yesterday evening may suggest otherwise

They’re back! One of the enchanting Hobbies, hunting insects in North Somerset today. It’s a dramatic sight with the birds twisting and turning to catch tiny insects and eat them on the wing.

Thanks for the heads-up Jack - I also had that pleasure, last November on a high Himalayan plateau. Good views, but distant.

I have such happy memories of seeing Cuckoos last year, below the slopes of Benne Eighe.

Knepp Castle estate in Sussex,
spiritual home of ‘Wilding’, the genius book by Isabella Tree. Too early in the season for the turtle doves or Nightingale, but seeing Storks flying wild and nesting in the evening sun was very precious.

I’m using this picture of a gorgeous (wild) Wolf to promote my talks at Park Cameras this coming Saturday.

Typically, I only ‘ found’ the image yesterday among a very large set.

if you like the picture, please give me a follow 😊

Sitting quietly on the cliff wall when this beautiful Peregrine flew in to join us for a few minutes.

Quality time with friends.

Last night, the light was soft & warm. I caught this pregnant doe unexpectedly; she clearly didn’t know whether to freeze or to run. Partially screened by foliage, I got the picture and quietly retreated without disturbance.

Somerset’s Avalon Marshes have that sleepy feeling today, but good views of Marsh Harriers and the Cranes.

Blue sky, sun and gorgeous colours.

Today has been a day of pleasure pics; experimentation, not work.

On paper there was nothing that should make me want an OM–3, but yesterday I fell in love…

The OM-3 is an absolute jewel of a camera; as analogue as digital can be. Compact but solid with a beautiful metal body. Tiny too

Seeing @sophiecarr.bsky.social‘s wonderful, moody picture from Iceland set me thinking. Many years ago I worked exclusively in black-and-white, hand printing everything. Here is my reworked Cairngorms at sunset in B&W

I wanted an excuse to post this Purple Heron shot for a while and seeing Kefin's lovely picture prompted me to do it.

Captured from the front of a slow moving boat, almost at water level, with my small group, on Spain's River Ebro in May.

Re-visiting some of the Mountain Hares we met on our trip to the Scottish Highlands last week. Most unusual was seeing two hares sharing a form, high up on the hillside.
