PT PhD student by night - interested in the representation of military aviators in popular culture. A librarian for the USAF by day. Easily distracted at all times by biathlon, geopolitical arguments, rugby, murder mysteries, or livestreams of airfields.
That looks incredibly delicious and also that it might kill me (but at least I'd die in a good cause)

Interesting! We keep hearing from families who PCS in and put their kids into UK primary schools that the kids get a huge advantage over their US peers as a result. I knew that phonics was one of the reasons they like UK schools, but didn't know what the non-phonics system was until this link. Ta!

I will never understand why, for all the pro-military talk prominant in US government circles, those same people are not willing to ensure the best of everything for future leaders. If you just want narrow-focus doctrinaires you can produce those without pretending equivalence to top-tier education

It's heart-breaking to realise that at the time of taking everyone in that photo probably spent their silence thinking of specific named individuals they could easily remember as laughing, speaking, living friends, neighbours, workmates, and family. So raw.

I enjoyed this so much, plus I love the engineering values of 'learn to do things yourself first' and 'speak to the end users all the time'. Reminds me of the ex-RAF crew chief at work who ranted about the irritation of having to always take BOTH engines out of the Lightning due to the design!

It WAS my lunch-break treat. What a superb lecture from an entertaining and utterly terrifying man (the start gave me flashbacks to being in undergrad physics!) What a life, what a brain. Thank you so much for linking this talk! :) :)
