Fire season in the Western Cape. Neighbouring farm burning and it is all hands on deck. Now just fervently hoping this wind stays it's course as it is blowing away from our farm at the moment. Going to be a very long night.

We are in a drought and we are putting out feed for the Springbuck, cattle and sheep. Everytime the Springbuck sees you they assume you are bringing food. No food, on my way to kick a waterpump back into life. So far lucky that a healthy borehole and dwindling river provides drinking water for all.

Good morning from South Africa

All is well that ends well. It has been drama after drama on the farm the last few days. Sheep, goats, cattle, springbuck and donkeys gave it their best shot and kept us running, but disasters were averted.

We are in the grips of a drought and they are wreaking havoc in my garden. Not that I mind in these conditions. Counted 8 tortoises here today. I have to also pay my "nature" rent and taxes!

Saturday, fire going and the rugby match started. Springbok fever here. South Africa vs Argentina.

Yes! A few drops of rain starting falling! Hoping it will last for a while. In the grip of a bad drought here and every drop matters.

We need rain. Drought is hitting hard here in the Overberg. Now feeding the Springbuck lucern pellets and purchasing feed bales for the cattle and sheep. Some neighboring farms are harvesting early to save what remains of their wheat harvest. Canola farmers fared a little better.

Put out feed for the Springbuck, but the Blue Cranes decided they will dine first.

The joy of the first winter rain here on the farm. It has been a long and very dry summer. Hopefully this is a sign that a good wet winter awaits us here in the Western Cape.

My biggest fear living on a farm? Fire. And here in the Western Cape, South Afica, it is fire season. An out of control fire burning our way. Strong winds are are not helping.

Her Space Her Time by Shohini Goshe is well worth the read. Hidden histories of women in STEM. When women were the scienctific trail blazers but the men got the accolades and a forever place in history. Men should champion for women in STEM. Some of these women had one, but many did not.
