Oh yeah, I know I've definitely seen more RW than DS armies out there.
Honestly though, The Rainbow Warriors were still kicking as of 8th edition, so they have escaped being eaten as far as we know. They're just very, very shy.

I didn't know that, in all honestly! I'd never really thought about where the name of the ship came from since it just felt like something they'd come up with naturally.

Ah! Yeah I've seen this force when looking for Rainbow Warriors stuff and it's incredible, those gradient rainbows are amazing.

Oh absolutely. We've had so many different takes that it makes people not so precious about things, a new iteration of a character or idea can go in wildly different directions because we've already had several different versions.

The other alternative is to take an approach like Transformers canon, which is to look you dead in the eyes and say 'Even the toy bios have their own continuity and every time you complain I add another contradictory origin for the Constructicons. Fuck you.'

That's not to say it's bad to enjoy the old movies, I enjoy a lot of old media that's, shall we say, problematic (you'd be amazed quite how much blackface there is in old kaiju movies), just that it's okay to let a franchise rest once in a while.
