My 7 y/o came down last night as I was watching NJB's video about Forrester. She wanted to snuggle & watch with me for a bit. There were so many clips of beautiful, safe bike lanes in Amsterdam & she was like...are those what you're trying to get built here so I can ride by myself? Yes, my girl.

“I have taught my kids how to ride safely, he did everything right and still got hit."
This was a quote from his mom, and that mom is all of us.

I think you've stated the solution in your response & I know Vélo Canada Bikes has been working towards this for years.

Those are truly different issues.

I mean...cars parked all over the streets also looks bad. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We certainly don't always make it easy in North America, by neither is car ownership. We've just accepted a lot of the downsides that come with it. Lots of creative suggestions on the comments.

I think that just speaks to our lack of third places to interact with our community. I love a front porch too, mostly cuz it's often the closest thing we have to a real third place.

I'll 2nd this. The rain sound is fantastic, IMO. I can't hear where it ends and restarts, if that makes sense? We did the same. Had a hatch when the girls were babies in our room & loved it so much we bought our own mini. They also have excellent customer service & replaced ours no questions asked.

I'll die with you on that hill, Dave.

I also can't imagine writing a bad review for that kind of thing. Like with Nathan's decathlon bike, if it wasn't fixable, we'd have been like...that's annoying. But I'd be more annoyed at decathlon for their BS than at a bike shop that doesn't carry the bike. Smh.

You get bad reviews for not servicing a DTC bike? What is wrong with people? I truly thought it was common knowledge that that is the risk you run with DTC brands...

That whole setup is a disaster. It enrages me that a bikeway would be so poorly designed. & the parking lot that ropes off after the businesses close so that no one else can use it & just creates even more chaos. Get bent, stupid stripmall.

Fuck. I'm mad that my instinct was correct. 😢

That's such a good idea! Love seeing how people get creative. (& now that I know the joy of riding over driving, I would seek out this kind of thing before going back to driving a car!)

When were riding with the girls, one of us always has to ride ahead & block the alley so they can ride safely through to wait at the light. It's just an unnecessary stressful situation. Hopefully just two cars colliding tonight, but that's not where my mind went first.

This intersection is where I have the most near misses as a cyclist in #yyc. Mostly because people like to cut through the alley that runs south of 16th & then fly into the street where it meets the bikeway at 2nd. Also a ton of delivery driver shenanigans cuz there's no parking for shawarma.
