Great thread. The US has completely overplayed its hand (to use an extremely crass analogy) and it doesn't realise the hegomony is over. The whole globe is shifting on its axis now, the power and influence (or wealth) the US once had is just vanishing. Empire in ruins. And at neck breaking speed.
As in so many other areas, Trump's grasp of the world and the US's place in it is decades out of date. Others in his administration and in the think tank and media ecosystem around it also seem to think the US still has the relative power it lost 20 or 30 years ago.
