I meant to post this yesterday, but this was my favorite #Halloween #costume of all time, back when my nephew was still pre-pubescent and still excited about Halloween. He was obsessed with #EdgarAllanPoe that year for some reason

Me dressed as the Wall in Edgar Allan Poe's The Cask of Amontillado while my then-child nephew was dressed as The Raven. My WLl costume was two whole sheets of red felt with bricks drawn on them, and a speech bubble that says "For the love of God Montresor! #anuba #tagay #huwagPoe", that last one being a Filipino pun on "huwag po" (please don't). I'm also hilding a bottle of red wine with the label taped over. My nephew is dressed all in black, with a cape of feathers fastened to his wrosts and elaborate bird headdress over his head and face, that his mom made. ...and then we switched costumes later on, with the Raven headpiece sitting on my head and The Wall being significantly shorter. My nephew's eyes peering from the missing brick, and his little fingies on the edges of the opening

A poison-pen mystery set in an Oxford's women's college, what really got me here is the portrait of Harriet Vane, Novelist, wrestling with the eternal struggle over writing for a living vs writing that pulls at the soul, and Peter Wimsey's cutting the Gordian Knot:

Impregnable bouncy fortresses could've been built from this. No amount of shouting would've brought this rubbery Wall of Jericho down. So much mockery from my siblings. When I rightly directed blame towards the real culprit: MOM: Why did you listen to me?
