Not sure who was more excited, me or this beautiful snake. Not a bad size for #Munich

#Planegg, just outside #Munich, c. 11.30 this morning, watching two beautiful falcons hunting. One in particular was oddly bold & even landed on ground ten metres away. Otherwise, it relaxed atop a 10-ish-foot perch, scanning for food. Rare occasion no camera with me but so close iPhone worked great

The only (takes a deep breath) half-decent news from #Munich is that the far-right AfD did not do as well here as in much of Germany, winning 9.3%, though still +4.8% compared to 2021. #Green vote held up fairly well, 23.5% (-2.6%); #SPD down 3.6% to 15.4%; #CSU comfortably winning, 29.4% (+5.6%)

This sign still makes me laugh - basically: 'don't hang about because you might be hit by golf balls from the left'. I wouldn't be too disappointed to see the golf course left to nature

Freezing #Feldafing this morning, near #Munich. Tiny bit of blue sky quickly covered by pretty dense mist across Lake #Starnberg. Four hours later and a barmy 5 degrees now and bright sunshine

Future Austrian Kaiserin Elisabeth #Sisi lived nearby in Castle #Possenhofen family home, hence, the sign. Birds of prey live around the edge of the lake here alongside Feldafing golf course

And a handful of others

Strange but my iPhone videos don’t load to #bluesky unless they’re exported as 4k via QuickTime. Anyway, back to #Feldafing #Munich and the beautiful vista this morning.

#Feldafing, just outside #Munich #München, on Lake #Starnberg, this morning, as the mist rises and the lake is about to be flooded with sunshine

Albert Weisgerber’s ‘Im Münchner Hofgarten’, a favourite image of pre-war #Munich, dating from 1911. #Weisgerber lived here (largely) from 1897 and worked with major names from Blue Rider - #Klee & #Kandinsky. Like another, Franz Marc, Weisgerber was killed during the First World War

#Jugendstil is on at the city’s Kunsthalle until 23 March 2025: www.kunsthalle-muc.de/jugendstil/
It is a reminder that 120-odd years ago, Munich was arguably the most important art location in Europe

#Munich #Jugendstil exhibition is a joy. Inspired by nature and rural ‘craftsmanship’, furniture, sculptures or architecture, Jugendstil promoted quality at the same time as functionality, aesthetics at the same time as simplicity. Idea was mass production, though never as affordable as hoped

This winter’s first snow, with view from balcony across the Würm/(stream), halfway between #Munich #München and #Starnberg
