A transplanted Torontonian in New Brunswick. Mostly politics, sports and complaining about drivers. National park buff. There will be puns.
Lots of interesting bits in this piece - including the hilarious line "I did not linger on the idea of a freelance writer with a personal assistant" - but this graph really hit me (plus, I love a drop cap).

Never mind the fighter jets, how do we get a deal with Sweden to bring back the Saab 900 Turbo?

From the same meeting: Four objections from a neighbourhood of thousands, at least one concerned about a possible ground-floor microbrewery. Council caters to the complainers and now that isn't allowed. Maybe hundreds of other people nearby were excited for a local microbrewery? We'll never know.

Checking back in on Moncton's ridiculously dry summer, our total precipitation from July-Sept. currently sits at 75mm. Even in an average summer, we'd reach that amount by July 24 - more than six weeks ago. In the record year it was by July 6.

This week especially I've been thinking about this from the great Monty Don, on how our obsession with talking about the weather doesn't transfer over to the climate. Seems like Gardener's World is one of the few places I consistently hear about climate change lately.

I assure you, I have not.

I'm not sure mulch should be the main concern here. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Incredible how little rain Moncton has had this summer - only about 41% of the historical average. Looking further back, the spring we thought was so rainy because it all came on the weekends was also significantly drier than average. Same in winter. One of the driest years on record since 1900.

Now getting served ads for the most garish and vulgar furniture imaginable. Thanks for reading my posts, Wayfair!

I know his fondness for gaudy gold is long-standing, but you can't tell me this fixation on adorning the White House isn't also a case of keeping up with the Joneses.

"We've all heard the rhetoric from the nation's capital," says Maine's governor, who wants us to visit border towns in Maine. It's not just from Washington, hate to tell you. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Is it just me or is technology (or our use of it) just getting worse every day? Remember when tracking info used to tell you where your package was?

Took almost two hours in line, but we voted in Moncton! Have to think all the keeners were out for the first day and it will be quicker for the rest of the voting days.

I'm beginning to think the Great One might not be very smart. More than a month and this is the best he can come up with?

Longing for a future when "transit employees actually use the transit system they operate" isn't such a novel idea that it warrants a news story. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I basically only go on Twitter these days to read great tweets like this about how much going on Twitter sucks.

My local grocery store's (also shoe store, Dollarama and liquor stores) parking lot is bigger than the stores themselves. Even during the holidays, or when some of it is a garden centre, or some is used for event parking for the 8,800-seat arena next door, it's never close to full.
