We are naive if we believe in the legitimacy of the result of any game contested in any league that allows gambling to sponsor any part of it.

Seems to me that a lot of times the narrative that thing one is a distraction from thing two is itself a distraction from the fact that we don’t actually have to choose between them. The trolleycar is a hypothetical, in real life you can go untie everyone from both tracks and also stop the trolly.

Pretty sad that the slogan Stop de Kindermoord ("Stop the Child Murder") which the Dutch used to take back their cities from cars would not work in the USA where an average of 3 children are killed and over 400 are injured by cars every day.

This is how cases like Aldrich Ames happened, and it's one of my biggest fears.
Huh, lots of angry people, some with security clearances and lots of knowledge valuable to foreign adversaries, suddenly facing mortgage payments and hungry kids, with no jobs, limited prospects and a feeling that their nation just betrayed them.
