Intellivision composite mod install was a succuss. Hardest part was unsoldering the RF shield.

Also picked up about 60 episodes of Babylon 5 on VHS, an Intellivision, a game, ISA I/O card and an ISA Video card

#VCF East swap meet was a great day with beautiful weather in Jersey. I got some pretty cool stuff. Snagged this "19 trinitron first thing in the morning and the model M keyboard and Microsoft serial mouse at the end of the day for the 486.

Replaced all the batteries in my NES carts. Of the 6 games, 5 still had working batteries and my save games from the 80s and 90s. Installed the new battery in parallel with the original, then removed the old. Save games were preserved.

$19 at Goodwill. Coffee table and end table with enough storage for all my controllers.

It was a big mess, but it runs again after sitting in the garage for 3 or 4 years. I got the mess cleaned up and drove it around the neighborhood. Rainy day, so can't do much more. It leaks and the wipers are terrible

I was once given that advice that the best way to rebuild a carb is to take the old one off of the engine, then take the new one out of the box and bolt it to the engine. It ended up being about as difficult as an iphone. I had a second carb to use as a reference. Choke isn't right but it works.

The #486 build is complete!

Specs:
Intel 486 DX2-66
20 MB RAM
400 MB Western Digital hard drive
S3 805 VLB video card
Sound Blaster ViBRA16
Creative IDE controller card
Creative CD Drive
Internal 250 MB Zip drive
Generic I/O card

I just need to get a monitor and keyboard that are a better match.

I have a little Core2 Duo PC that I'm going to teach myself a bit more about Linux, switches and firewalls on. I need to get an older cheap hypervisor that is still very relevant admin wise today.

Ball joints were beyond bad. Probably explains my bald tire.

It's not retro computing, but the jeep is still retro. Ball joints replacement. Had to remove brakes, spindles, wheel hubs and axles first.

I moved it over to the bench and it worked again. Set it back up and same problem. Unplugged the zip drive from the parallel port and it works fine. Added a CD drive.

I used this to repair my RTC and it worked perfectly. I marked the 2 spots with a silver sharpie and used the dremel cutting wheel to grind the plastic down to the metal contacts. Put a blog of solder into each trench. Soldered the battery holder to it.

I backed up the Maxtor and did a format and fresh DOS 6.22 install. It wasn't playing well with the CF card and IDE adapter.

And it runs Doom =p

Not as smooth as I expected from a DX2-66.
May 14, 2025 at 11:25 PM
Bad IO card. Swapped that and the floppy drive out. Boots to DOS on the maxtor. Not much on it. Win 3.1 but no extra apps. A couple folders on the drive look like some cheap single file games

The RTC is repaired. No longer halting on low voltage alert. Working on drive access next. The specs on the drive from the web aren't matching CMOS auto detect. Not booting from drive.

It's nice when you get a new shelf. Roughly 470 tapes. I won't be paying any movie tarriffs! Does not include my Star Trek and Star Wars tape collections.

It's a 486DX2 66! Would not post with the trident card in it. Gave 2 quick beeps followed by 8 beeps. Swapped vid card and it posted =)

This is one of my grail finds at the thrift. Never thought I'd run into one this old with the turbo button and mhz LED. No idea what is in it. More pics coming later
