The elves left one of their saddles at my house. And I have a fairy ring at the bottom of my back slope. I guess I have an out when it all becomes too much 🙃

First priority, moving my tree ferns from the exposed, wind-swept flats of Albany to my new home on the coast. 🌱

My new home has nurse stumps in the back yard! I'm so excited!

Making my dreama reality. I'm officially a homeowner! My little oasis on the Oregon coast. I have a lot of work to do, but I'm so thankful to have even made it this far.

Sea palms? Yes.

Kings? No.

Stay safe out there. Stay peaceful. Like marine algae firmly anchored to the rocks, unmoved by the crashing waves.

This is a proudly anti-fascist account.

Silene vulgaris, aka sculpit or stridolo, grows so fast you can harvest it every 2 or 3 days. Very young shoots taste a bit like pea shoots, but slightly bitter. The bitterness intensifies quickly as the leaves age, esp. in hot weather, so cut often!

My little babaco is finally holding onto its flowers after giving it a larger container. Can't wait to sample the fruit. Here's hoping I like it! 😅

Watching the spots develop on this Aspidistra sichuanensis 'Dappled Expectations'. They start as yellow pinpricks and expand, then develop a pale green halo.

Pelargonium 'Eskay Saar'

On top of those fantastic flowers, the leaves smell like cinnamon

A fantastic seedling of Fatsia polycarpa 'Needham's Lace', from seed sown by @amateurbotannist.bsky.social

(Hose included for garden realism, not because I'm lazy... 😛)

Pyrrosia lingua 'Futaba Shishi'. I already have a lant labeled Futaba Shishi, but I'm not sure it's accurate, so I wanted another from a reliable source to compare.

Pyrrosia hastata

Added some new Pyrrosia to my collection

Pyrrosia lingua 'Shigei'
P. lingua 'Obake'
P. lingua 'Sango Cristata'
P. hastata
P lingua 'Futaba Shishi'

So excited to have these special ferns and, eventually, be able to share them more widely.

Siderasis fuscata is one of my all-time favorite houseplants. It's mostly about the leaves, but the flowers, albeit short-lived, are a fun bonus.

I can fit a 15' kayak in the back of my car! 😂
May 16, 2025 at 2:10 AM
Sometimes (rarely) I post non-plant things. I took my new kayak out today for the first time. May have overdone it because I seriously questioned whether I'll be able to move my arms at work tomorrow. Worth it.

The scent of these Albuca spiralis flowers is overpowering.

Almost as overpowering as the existential dread of trying to envision and build a future for yourself when you can't even envision a future for your failing country.

Two plants endemic to higher peaks of the NW Oregon coast range, seen yesterday on Saddle Mountain, Micranthes hitchcockiana and Cardamine pattersonii. Plus my 1st time seeing Erythronium revolutum and Primula austrofrigida. 🌱

Oh look, more citrus! These arrived today. L-R: US942 citrandarin, US119, Keraji sweet lemon, Thomasville citrangequat, Kabosu papeda, Xie Shan satsuma, Shiranui.

These should be hardy in my climate, except Shiranui (and probably Xie Shan in cold winters). 🌱 #ediblegarden #citrus #garden #fruity

Another first time flower (under my care, at least): Tahitian pummelo. Everything about this plant is extra thicc, and I love it. It smells wonderful, too. 💚🌱
