This is a cranberry walnut pie that is really more of an extraordinary sugar cookie or cake, except that we’ve always called it a pie. And it’s thanksgiving. So.

A blurred field of white blooming ground cover (which was very fragrant) and which had a tall, spiky yellow flower also growing there. I don’t know what either flower is named for sure, but the yellow one reminded me of the word saxifrage. A lipstick pink peony bud that has begun to spiral open, the first whorl revealed by the loosening petals.

#flowersonfriday This week it has to be peonies-mine didn’t bloom due to drought last year. This year they are covered with fat, round buds and the ants have arrived to do their work.
The tight ball of a pink peony bud is shown in an unevenly focused bed of green leaves. Some of the leaves are curved and hold rainwater. There are seven small brown ants visible on the surface of the bud, eating the plant’s sticky nectar.
