I feel like that’s one of the things some transit advocates and supporters don’t fully understand…
Even though, statistically, taking transit is safer than driving, if people in general don’t feel comfortable/safe riding, hard numbers and data won’t really matter… they won’t take it

If even someone like me, who bikes regularly and thinks about safety constantly, is influenced by poor design, how can we expect better from those who drive everywhere?

I guess it should be said, I don't think livable cities and urban environments built around people are political topics. It's just basic logic that has been in practice for thousands of years until around 1950 when some rich assholes thought they had a better idea for how we should do things.
