I’ve an award winning podcast about all that’s weird and a little off kilter in the town of Biggleswade and Bedfordshire. History with a pinch of the paranormal, folklore & urban legends. I also like cake, cats, beating bosses and disability rights.
😞 Though interestingly my only visit to Westminster Abbey 30 years ago was marred by the most officious volunteer I’ve ever come across berating visitors for no good reason. I really want that sweatshirt now. Upside is Hellebore get some publicity!

Dear friends. I’ve done something different launching Legenda by targeting independent bookshops. I didn’t drive all sales to Amazon. So I’m relying on those of you that are reading it to share reviews & spread the word. I want this book to be supported by readers, not algorithms.

I took this photo on Saturday of the Biggleswade Flying Saucer Hoax monument. Today there are a fraction of the leaves left on the trees. Winter is indeed coming. The perfect time for storytelling. Remember there was a new episode of Weird in the Wade out this week.

It's my wedding anniversary so I won't be around on the socials today or tomrrow much. It's also St Martin's Day once a big deal (and still is in parts of Germany and northern Europe.) A day of feasting, slaughering livestock, drinking the new wine and gift giving, marking the start of winter 1/2

Left BBC Sounds open after listening to @weirdinthewade.bsky.social and a while later it spontaneously began playing the latest #Uncanny.

(#TeamSceptic) It's probably how the app's coded, but (#TeamBeliever) I'm wondering whether @dannyrobins.bsky.social is being promoted from the Other Side...

Visited haunted Biggleswade for @weirdinthewade.bsky.social live with guest @owenstaton.bsky.social. Loved hearing demon-dog tales by Natalie & Owen, seeing some of my photos used, and meeting fellow fans at the haunted pub. A wonderfully weird weekend!

On Monday (10th November) there’s a new episode of Weird in the Wade about a poltergeist that rattled Biggleswade in the 1990s. I’m joined by a very special guest (I’ll announce who this weekend) and there’s an update from Andy about his “haunted house.” 👻

I love the history of bonfire night, the plot, the plotters, my favourite King (James I and VI) but not so much the anti-catholic sentiment behind burning an effigy of Guy Fawkes, who was a fascinating guy 😉
However you’re celebrating (or if not at all) have a safe night!

In the 16th and 17th centuries (and perhaps the 18th C) a weird 'Fiery Exhalation' would sometimes rise from the sea at Harlech. In 1692, it 'set Fire to the Ricks of Hay, Corn & Barns [...] & to infect the Grass, but it was not mischievous to Men though they were in the midst of it".

Last Sunday, the 2nd of November, Owen Staton and I recorded an episode of Weird in the Wade in front of an audience, at the Bigg Theatre in Biggleswade. This to me still seems like an impossibility, yet I was there, and it really did happen. There's photographic proof as well, through out this blog post. Bossing it! 🙂 Three years ago in November 2022 I was preparing for a photography exhibition at Kings College London, an amazing experience. For that exhibition I'd made soundscapes to accompany my photographs, so that blind and partially sighted people could experience the images in a different way.

Prep for tomorrow’s Weird in the Wade live podcast recording with @owenstaton.bsky.social is underway. Merch, stage dressing and my dress are safe at the theatre. A healthy lunch at the former haunted Poundstretcher Jones Gym is had.
If you’re coming tomorrow I can’t wait to see you!
