REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES director Patricia Cardoso also directed for Ava Duvernay's QUEEN SUGAR and HBO's TALES OF THE CITY. She's currently a professor at UCR Riverside and sits on the Academy's Board of Governors. (3/?)

REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES is the story of Ana Garcia, a HS senior w/ a full scholarship to Columbia. Her conservative parents want her to stay close to home and work in her older sister's dress factory.

RWHC is one of our greatest examples of end of high school coming of age movies (3/?) (#BTFF)

REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES was released in Oct. of 2002, dir. by Patricia Cardoso in her film debut and adopted from the stage play by Josefina Lopes.

It is the film debut of then 17 year old America Ferrera and yes, is the inspiration for the current Broadway Musical (2/?)
