A pitcher, a priest and another wonderful story @byalexcoffey. Please forward to Pope Leo XIV if you have his contact information. He would like it. So will you. I like this writer. 😍
For 23 years, Phil Shank has held on to an old church bulletin. It was signed by Tug McGraw after he spoke to a youth ministry in 2002.

McGraw was there because of his friendship with a local priest, Rev. Victor Eschbach.

An autographed church bulletin tells the story of ‘faith-filled’ Tug McGraw’s friendship with a priest
Phil Shank cherishes his unique memorabilia stemming from a chance encounter with McGraw more than 20 years ago. For Father Victor Eschbach, it’s a reminder of his special bond with the late pitcher.

Shortly after Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau died, their mother, Jane, got a text from Kelsie Snow.

Snow, who lost her husband to ALS in 2023, gave her some advice.

"Find a project."

Now, Jane has one, in the Gaudreau Family 5K. She said it's given her more purpose: www.inquirer.com/flyers/gaudr...
Jane Gaudreau needed a project after the loss of her two sons. She found one in the Gaudreau Family 5K.

Julius Erving struggled to find dress shoes that fit him (size 16) so in 1980, he opened a shoe salon on S 2nd Street.

It sold men's and women's leather shoes, sizes 8 and up. No sneakers.

He visited the store a few times a week. It was one of his first businesses: www.inquirer.com/sixers/juliu...

This is a story about Wampum, Pa., friendship, deep roots, rampant racism and a misunderstood Hall of Famer. @byalexcoffey.bsky.social delivers again. I like this writer.
Dick Allen received a lot of hostility during his MLB career. But in his hometown of Wampum, Pa., the noise receded.

It gave him peace.

“He was just one of the guys,” said Rob Wilson, owner of a local gas station, and a friend of Allen's. “And he loved that.” www.inquirer.com/phillies/a/d...
Dick Allen was one of baseball’s most misunderstood players. But in his hometown of Wampum, Pa., everyone ‘knows the truth’
In his small western Pennsylvania hometown, the noise around Allen receded. There he was “Sleepy,” a loyal friend, who loved to laugh and sing, and had a nickname for almost everyone.

He can't speak or breathe on his own, but his eyes and mind have been spared, so he uses them to coach from afar.
