Sth that would make me ditch React in one of my projects: a controllable rich text editor. Meaning: changeable content through the reactive state system instead of the default-value only approach all the existing ones are doing

I spoze they have their reasons sth sth expensive internal state, ⬇️

Some people, when confronted with a problem, think “I know, I’ll use floating point.” Now they have 2.10000000000000008882 problems.

I look back fondly on having built the first skylight(s) on atproto and the first letterboxd/goodreads. But tbh others have done more with those concepts, and I'm starting my new job with voize.de on Monday so I'm happy to freeze skylights.my and become a popfeeder myself

As Gregor Samosa awoke this morning from uneasy sleep he found the memory of a dream where he was watching an Andrew Scott film with the man himself, all the while trying to ask him out for a friend, despite being transfixed himself

There are many, many apps, startups and communities being built on the AT Protocol. We featured a tiny handful at #EuroskyLive last week. 🧵

Remember: It ys okaye to be lonely. It ys okaye to feel lost. It ys okaye to be sad. It ys okaye to have no plannes or just small plannes. It ys okaye to have big plannes that seem exhausting. It ys okaye to be a mess. Take care of thyself. Thou art amazinge.

Is anyone working on a GPL-like license for atproto data? I.e. “if you use this lexicon/pds you must put all your non-private data in a lexicon/pds as well”

Finally someone put one my core aliefs about computing and our paradigmatic stuckness into words. Text is seen as god given when it’s just as arbitrary, interpreted and engineered as any other (more) structured format
Adjacent point, there is nothing inherently ubiquitous about plain text in computing. It took decades of standardization, adoption, and gradual convergence of a behemoth of infrastructure that now resides in every computing environment that we take for granted.
nah i think DBs in any form (including my beloved CRDTs) are almost always a "least worst" option for end user software.

if i have a plain text file i can read it, i can edit it, i can open it in ~any program. the barrier to doing anything useful with a sqlite db or an automerge doc is way higher.

Signal has now landlorded me into paying 2 bucks a month since I’ve been carrying a 8gb update from device to device for years that I’m only now able to backup, to their own hosted service.

Not saying Signal is clearly bad or malicious, just wish we had something better
Now available on iOS 😎
Until now, if you lost or broke your phone, your Signal message history was *gone,* a real challenge for everyone whose most important conversations happen in Signal. So, with careful design and development, we’re rolling out opt-in secure backups.
