I’m taking this as a sign that the fruit is ripe! First one off our night blooming cereus cacti in a few years.
Dessert tonight! 😋

Go, little Blue-eyed grass, go!!

It will be a few months before these #nativeplants in the backyard will be blooming but they look good now! 🌿

Filed this under ‘had to happen but why??’
The first few paragraphs of an article in our local newspaper this morning…
So ai hallucinations is a thing I guess

Turns out it was a big stack of rolled hay bales that caught fire on a farm about 8 miles away. This was an air quality report from the area ,

Not great for a while.
December 7, 2025 at 10:32 PM
I’m almost done whining… the blue sky is gone, the valley below is smoke filled. I’m wearing an n95 mask when I go outside to feed the birds…
Looking forward to being in downtown San Diego for a couple hours and breathing clean air
December 7, 2025 at 6:25 PM
Aaacck, looks like we’ll be staying inside this morning. Smoke is really bad, not a wildfire but an agricultural fire - hay bales it seems.
Poor birds… 😷

It was going to be such a nice day

San Pasqual valley
December 7, 2025 at 5:22 PM
Lifting inversion sounds likely, there’s a slight breeze now and the haze is rising from San Pasqual valley up to our little side valley. It’s nasty out. Photo is not really picking up the smoke very well. Still fog but now more smoke than fog.
December 7, 2025 at 5:09 PM
Oh yeah! Here’s a photo from May 9, nearing the end and seeds are forming.
December 7, 2025 at 4:58 PM
It looks and smells like it all of a sudden. Watch Duty shows very bad air quality just west of the Wild Animal Park just south of 78.

Smoke on top of the fog…
December 7, 2025 at 4:47 PM
Fog and sunrise come to the San Pasqual Valley this morning. First the sky is peachy, then the fog bank, then bluesky.
1st to 2nd - 6 minutes. 2nd to 3rd - 40 minutes. San Diego county

Speaking of Gary, he just showed up big blocky head and dark cap. Also chest streaking is finer than Sharpie. 2nd pic is old but of Sharpie with googly eyes and rounder smaller head. 🪶

It’s very quiet in the yard right now!

2) why yes it is! It and the other pieces we have served two generations well!
December 5, 2025 at 8:23 PM
“That’s more like it!” He ended up finishing two serving, said his thank-yous, and ran off to do roadrunner things.

Your 3rd serving is waiting if you come back, buddy! I’m sure you’re starrrving from having to catch your snacks these last days 😏

Good to see you!
December 5, 2025 at 7:01 PM
🎉 after a handful of days with no Ravi visits, and excellent roadrunner weather today, the wandering boy returns!

I’m getting lots of stink eye as Ravi says “Where’s the big self serve bowl?” .

Sorry buddy, I’ll snap to it. You’re a little early. #birds

The waning Cold Moon says Good Morning as it slips toward the western horizon a few minutes after sunrise.
December 5, 2025 at 3:09 PM
There it is! The Full #Moon, Cold Moon, Super Moon seen from San Diego north county. Moonrise is about 100 minutes later for me than official due to hills to the east (6:02pm tonight).
Full disclosure- a couple big avocado leaves at lower left 🤷‍♂️
Minor crater detail lower right edge.
December 5, 2025 at 2:53 AM
Here it comes! 99.8% illuminated full moon per timeanddate . com at the time of the photos.

The moon is creeping up from behind avocado trees on hills to the east.

Last full moon of the year is a Super Moon. 🌕

December 5, 2025 at 2:42 AM
It’s almost here! The last full moon of this year is also a super moon - slightly closer therefore slightly brighter and looks slightly bigger.
Seen from San Diego north county.
December 5, 2025 at 2:29 AM
If only everything was as peachy as the clouds just now. (maybe in a couple years, sooner if we’re lucky)

Does that look like a fish?? I’ve been having a lot of salmon lately 😄
December 5, 2025 at 12:52 AM
I’m glad you get the implication - I usually forget to add that 😊

I’ve got 90 minutes to go but beginning preps for the full moon pic tonight.

Virtually no clouds in the sky EXCEPT for where the moon will rise 🙄😤
👇 (thin so far…)
December 5, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Four shots over the course of four minutes as the moon rises over a hill.

98% illuminated waxing gibbous phase. Full Super Cold #moon tomorrow. There is a tiny bit of crater detail along the lower edge seen in #3, #4 at the shadow line. Tomorrow that will move to the top. Seen from San Diego county

Sigh, looks like Ravi broke the every other day visit streak today.
So here’s one from 12/3/2024. He’s at his favored side of the patio but this is well before the self serve table.
A sunny day then , shocking 😂

Tomorrow starts a long streak of sunny days so I hope he shows up. 🪶

As the year wraps up, all sorts of ‘year in review’ notices pop up. I got this one from #birdbuddy. 🪶
