Warm nights in December are also nothing new - average min temps often tend to lift through the month from the 11th, peaking on the 23rd.

A relatively warm night for December, the temp didn't drop below 10.5C between 0000 and 0600. However, yesterday's min of 9.6C occurred at 0901 on Sunday.
The endless fun of the meteorological day.

Iberia warm again today, Tortosa in Catalonia reached 23.3C, the second day of (>23C)

Cold overnight, a low of -1.9C - the first frost of the month. Nothing remarkable though that's already more frost than last December.
Quite a few SE stations colder than Cairngorm Summit!

Interesting trough through today. Some 20mm in Havant.

The one bonus of these mobile periods is that you have a good chance of stunning, gin clear mornings. And no frost.

Anyone else feel hopeless after that Budget?
The £5mn promised for secondary school libraries across England is just 2% in real terms of the boost to spending on education by Labour in 1997.
There's just no vision - just fiddling around the edges. Our youngsters will leave.

Hokey cokey solutions at long lead times from run to run on the GFS. BUT, as suggested 11 days ago, something of the colder variety looks more likely.

This is enjoyable for anyone who likes historical policy programmes. Highlights how our leaders are swayed by whatever lobbyists are shouting loudest at any given time. And how it’s in the interests of oil companies for any changes to be glacial. On Netflix

Ariel balloon pump. Made in England! A whole industry right there that probably moved en masse to China decades ago. Funny how something simple like this unlocks a whole trove of childhood memories.

“If the West Wing is the mind of the nation, the East Wing is the heart.” First Lady Betty Ford.

It feels like Trump has ripped the heart out of the US.

Flagpole at the bottom of a garden of a house in East Ham. These were once common but most have rotted away over the decades. Proud dockers and other local workers would fly a Union Jack during national events. Nothing new here - everything’s a cycle. @mrjamesob.bsky.social

Nice patch of asperitas in this cloud.

Yesterday's max of 32.2C at #Sheffield was the hottest at that station this year. In fact it was the 15th hottest in a record back to 1882 - higher than anything recorded in 1976.

Cloud and thunderstorm put a cap on temps yesterday, pausing the heatwave locally as a two-day wonder. Notably hot elsewhere of course. wansteadmeteo.com/2015/06/26/p...

30.8C the high today, the first >30C for 24 days and the tenth this year - that's the most 30C in a year since 2018. For >30C 2025 is currently running 4th=

I’ve rarely seen such an abundant crop on virtually every fruit tree. A calm, sunny spring ensured few blossoms were disturbed. Does it mean a harsh winter? No, but it is testament to the spring just mentioned.

Took me three years to get here but I’ve finally seen Sheffield weather station in Weston Park on the day my daughter graduated last week.

Another 5.8mm of rain yesterday brought the 48hr total here to: 11.8mm
Interesting the rainfall event was a convergence line with much less either side.
Heathrow: 13.6mm
Holland Park: 36.2mm
And looked at nationwide the event was a spine, south to north.

With the Arome model going for 32mm from the #thunderstorms I've produced another top 10, this one for July deluges since 1959.
