Electric typewriters allowed for some editing/processing - one page at a time. My point is just that tech evolutions have happened before. They are just accelerating. My sense is this insight comes with age. ?

Yes very true. But it did revolutionize editing and softened critical thinking and grammar awareness. Especially with spelling/grammar check.

Perhaps we should also return to typewriters? We definitely had to think more thoroughly and on our toes back in the day. It seems to me that ethical transparent use is the direction things are heading. It’s not possible to stop this train, so doing it well is the best way forward imho.

Great piece. I hope there is more written on this topic esp regarding AI and carbon emissions. Gen Zs care about the climate and seem to be unaware of the ecological impact of their reliance on AI. How many trees does every AI please and thank you destroy exactly? It would be helpful to know.

I received the unfolding drama with Timothy as a commentary on wealth as an existential trap. Piper could not cope with simple food and an uncomfortable bed, and so gave up her dream to live monastically. Her mother spent that night cursing Piper’s dream. Late stage capitalism is bleak indeed.
