One of Scotland's most popular wee hills, did you know Dumyat is pronounced 'DUMB-eye-at'?
An alternative to the usual shorter route from the Sherrifmuir road, we've just replaced our old Dumyat from Blairlogie route to make a fine circuit - live now.

The path in the upper Alva Glen - a great showplace in the Ochils - was reopened earlier this year following several years of closure due to it being undercut. It was great to be able to rewalk this superb circular walk today - the slightly airy return leg...

Lovely autumn colours on the Water of Leith this afternoon.

We've been quiet on social media this week - but loads of work going on behind the scenes! Over the last year or two some forum users may have noticed Walkhighlands slowing down on busy evenings - mostly due to the many AI bots now visiting the site. We've now moved to the lastest server software...

Many cloud-based internet services may be down today, but we're glad to say Walkhighlands is still up and running as normal!

However, we have some planned downtime from midnight tonight as we've a big batch of software updates we need to apply to our servers. We expect this to take around 2 hours..

If you just listened to social media posts, you would think all Munros had clear, broad paths up them these days. No so - there are plenty without paths on parts of their main routes though - such as Beinn a' Chlachair, the location of yesterday's panorama.

It’s perfection right now - but on what summit?

Until the end of October, the main hill path to the Cobbler is closed on weekdays Monday - Friday due to Forestry and Land Scotland operations. There is a signed diversion using the SW side of the Allt a' Bhalachain. The path is open as usual on weekends.

We've updated our Gallanach walk from Oban so that it now returns along the Druim Mor ridge, with some really stunning views along the way.

We were updating our routes on the Isle of Lismore on Friday - one of my favourite places to explore. This set of 5 routes can easily be combined, together they explore the island using its network of old established paths and tracks.

And here’s a few shots from some of the routes we’ve been checking today - still in Argyll - wonder how many you recognise?

We’re out checking out routes around Oban and north Argyll this week. Here’s a shot from one of the walks yesterday - anyone recognise it?

Helen is just back from re-walking the complete Cateran Trail whilst testing a new tent. There have been several small changes to this lovely and perhaps under-appreciated long distance route - our new GPS is up, work on the description is under way.

Out updating Newtonmore's Wildcat trail last week - the last walk checked for a forthcoming new edition of our Pocket Mountains book of 40 walks in the Cairngorms.

The walk is on Walkhighlands website and app here:

It’s only one degree above freezing but it’s a beautiful morning with the Cairngorms above a misty Strathspey.

One of our aims has always been to help people find the full range of walks all over Scotland, rather than all being concentrated at a few overexposed honeypots. Today we were out updating our route in the little-known but lovely Correen Hills near Alford.

The sunshine really brought out the innumerable shades of green in the Caledonian pinewoods above Glenmore this morning - as seen on the more adventurous high level path to An Lochan Uaine - the Green Lochan.

In the Vat, a spectacular rock bowl carved out by the Burn o' Vat in the Muir of Dinnet. We're nearing completion of a set of updates of all the shorter walks in the Cairngorms National Park, ready for a new edition of our local Pocket Mountains book.📖
