Closest I had is when one of the people honored at the annual Unification Day celebration brings a date who is shocked at how well they are treated.

For Felcrown, if Digs had a gun she could take down the villain a little quicker & easier, but considering she gets the equivalent of a bomb, it might not make much difference.

For the shipwrecked familiars... well, the novella would become flash fiction...

Toss up between:

- The 1970 edition of the World Book Encyclopedia that we owned. It was amazing to browse through. I especially loved the annual arrival of the Yearbook additions.

- National Geographic Picture Atlas of Our Universe 👀

Had an idea for a better meme for my familiars. It's a bit of a Meme-ception and pretty much captures my original thought process in coming up with the concept for this story.

Side note: Lloyd Alexander was such a big part of my early reading, that I named my characters after him.

I picked Lloyd as a last name for Kyle, AJ, & Wynne specifically as an homage. AJ’s full name is Alexander James Lloyd. I even have his work messages display his name as “Lloyd, Alexander”.

But, dang it, writing them makes me happy! It'll take longer to make Felcrown publishable but right now I need to write for sanity rather than publication. Hopefully Future-Me has better skill & different mindset to clean them up for release.

Today-Me needs to have fun working on these goofs again.

I've been struggling lately with IRL stuff (not as bad as others deal with, just running too long with a higher demand for spoons than I have). So I need the comfort of writing old friends. It's been several months & likely of note to no one but me, but I'm unshelving Katie, Kyle, and the band.

Pyntal hates it in #Felcrown since she grew up on the surface rather than in a megadungeon trying to be a city. Unfortunately, her mothers want to return to their childhood home despite Pyntal's complaining.

Wicked black blades formed in her still functional arms and her serpentine lower body constricted around the orc assailant. The orc made a sickening crunch as she tightened her serpentine lower half around him. His mouth opened for a cry of pain, but one of her swords removed his head before he could make a sound. The Betrayer Queen shrieked as she tore at the lifeless body repeatedly with her blades.

Funny that when making a Picrew image of Digs, I saw some random braids that looked interesting. Then when writing this, they suddenly became deeply emotional worldbuilding lore. Writing is fun that way!

This year had seemed so much better. Last night, her mother made her usual three long remembrance braids on either side of Digs’s face in honor of her father and her adopted brother Rajak’s birth parents who died in the battle to slay the Oppressor God. She told her daughter about what they were like. The thrilling adventures the four of them had. Embarrassing stories. About dances, and proposals, and deciding to start families. All the while, weaving the memories into the braids.

When they got near Godsfall Chasm, she hurried past them to lean against the railing and look up. All she could see was two dozen more levels with bridges and walkways spanning the three hundred foot diameter chasm. Between the travel paths, the defenses, and the slope of the chasm, she could catch only glimpses of the cloudy sky above. Anywhere else in this mockery of a city, and you couldn’t even tell if it was day or night. A crude drawing of a slightly slanted white pit in brown earth. I shouldn't oversell it since the Digs/Pyntal romance is just a subplot but I do adore their little moments. I should get a lot of the stabbing villains stuff written this weekend for some action #WIPSnips more indicative of the main plot.

Seemed fitting since it would've been my dad's birthday, but 9 years ago, he went to the store to get eggs and a tired driver killed him.

So cherish time with loved ones. And, please, do not drive tired, it only takes 1 second to end a life.

I always longed to see… the… the realm of great walking beasts with cities upon their backs. Please… can you take… me there?” Pyntal’s throat tightened and she struggled to form words. “I… will do my best. Just rest. The…” Her vision blurred with tears. “The pain will be gone. Soon.” “Thank…” His eyes unfocused from hers and he let out a long, fading breath. Pyntal watched and held his hand as his life ended.
