I know nothing about Dr Who, but, for Londoners, the phrase "Going For Dinner With Billie Piper" is the absolute best way to remember the order of the vertical streets running east to west in Soho (Greek, Frith, Dean, Wardour, Berwick, Poland) and has saved many a late night out

The right wing chatterati wants to paint a picture of a country out of control, even though they scarcely visit these places. Centrists don't know places well enough to be confident of pushing back.
The Westminster chatterati’s perception of Birmingham is so utterly deranged by this point I’m actually sitting here laughing

The way people are talking about it you’d think it was some dystopia from the Hunger Games or something

Go outside, touch grass, come to Birmingham - you’ll be fine 😂

Completely agree with this - there is a lot of terrible policymaking where you can see the direct echo of “this guy played a lot of Civ as a child and teen”.
Genuinely think the concept of the tech tree has done a lot of damage.
“Since 1991, the video game Civilization, now in its seventh installment, has become one of the most successful game franchises ever. That means millions of kids have grown up with Civ as one of their formative ways of thinking about history.” (via @jstor.bsky.social) #AcademicSky

Just imagine if this test was played on FTA TV AND in the school holidays - how different the future of cricket could look like as kids fall in love with the first class game instead of what we offer up to them in the holidays…

Scientists have observed that every time Reform goes above four MPs, one of them has to leave the party, a phenomenon known as the Farage Equilibrium.
Reform MP James McMurdock has removed the party whip from himself over an investigation into alleged business impropriety during the pandemic

It's horoscopes for social scientists.
I find pointing out they are lumping 44 year olds through to 29 year olds in one big amorphous category clarifying. Think of it another way. 1 year olds and 16 year olds. 80 year olds and 65 year olds. Ludicrous nonsense.

An illustration of how FPP goes from sandbag to springboard - Reform votes and seats in different councils:

Oxfordshire: 18% vote, 2% seats
Cambridgeshire: 23% vote, 16% seats
Devon: 27% vote, 30% seats
Leicestershire: 33% vote, 46% seats
Derbyshire: 37% vote, 66% seats

I'm seeing a lot on the timeline of what these results mean for Labour and what they do next - understandable, as they are the governing party. But I'm surprised by the comparative silence on the Tories and on Badenoch's future - some of these results, like Kent, are apocalyptic for the Tories...

I am beyond heartbroken that the dozen-plus clumps of frogspawn in our pond all seem to have failed this year :-( I feel like I've failed as a frog-father! 🐸

Everything that’s wrong with society can be traced back to the decline in popularity of point-and-click adventure games. None of this would be happening if there was a AAA King’s Quest game every five years

Seeing a lot of left-leaning people express shock at this, but it's entirely what I'd expect from the MoS, and their readers - not doing so is a classic example of not understanding your political opponents.

Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia.

Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist.

Extraordinary.
