One spring I bought a Devil’s Trumpet Nightshade, mainly because the name is cool. It’s a wicked looking plant with purplish black stems, and it is deadly poisonous. I pushed my camera to its limits and managed to get photos of the blooms using only the light of a full moon.
Well, rooting for Notre Dame became a great opportunity to do the dishes and prep some vegetables for the week.

Granted, crazy 4th quarter come backs have been common this playoff season.

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.

My wife won’t watch the Bear because it’s too stressful.
Her favorite new show is the Pitt which stresses me out.
It’s excellent. Since it’s TVMA, emergency triage and OR gets the gory gnarly treatment it deserves.
But still…

I wrote a trilogy of punk-horror featuring a coven of witches inspired by the Golden Girls, who use housecats as supernatural kamikaze assassins. If you've ever wanted to see Bea Arthur eat Fancy Feast and telekinetically stab somebody, this is the one.

Good lord, what was the music budget on Goosebumps: the Vanishing?
So far I’ve heard Thundercat, St. Vincent, System of a Down, even Taylor Swift. I’m sure I missed some.
Also, the show ain’t bad.

The Cure made posters for every stop on their last tour, all of which sold out. I missed my chance by 1 person in the merch line. Recently, due to popular demand they printed more for only two cities, one of which was Dallas.
In case you were wondering how significant the Cure fan base in DFW is.

Using a self-published author's budget, no talent for digital painting whatsoever, and a copy of Photoshop, I used to make book covers good enough to win awards. I even did commissions. This was before AI Art was even invented.

It's possible.

So much cool stuff in this video by Matt Day interviewing Jacob Rosenberg. Skateboarding, hip hop, photography, filmmaking, and self publishing.
Rosenberg mentions skateboarding as a philosophy and discipline of pushing oneself and accepting risk and expecting failure.

Even though my team, Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys, have not done well, this is the best season of the NFL I have seen. Almost every game I have watched has had critical plays at the last second and/or a crazy come back.

I lived in a tiny country town exiled from Dallas/Fort Worth by hundreds of miles of cactus and cow shit. If I angled the tin foil flag on my radio antenna just right I could pick up Edgeclub and dream of living in a place where someone else knew about Acid House.

I’m in the baseball booster club at my son’s school and spend a lot of time running the flat top in the concession stand. I have so much fun I traded my grill for a Blackstone, and I love it.

Watching UT vs Georgia. A reporter just asked Vince Young, “At what point did you know you had taken control of the national championship game away from USC?”
Without hesitation Vince Young replied, “Pretty much when we got there.”

My grandfather was in the shower when the attack on Pearl Harbor started. Ran outside and manned an anti aircraft gun.
Naked.
My uncles told this story for a laugh when I was a kid.
At 18 they shared why he was never barefoot.
Because of what he had to walk through after the battle ended.

For my son

How fast
How fleeting life is
Our fears
Our triumphs
Our rigor
Our sloth
All at once everything
All at once nothing
Fly, son
Fly through it
Fly above it
Fly with it
Don’t stop for anything
It’ll stop for you soon enough

When Spotify wrapped first started, someone asked to see mine. It was Mazzy Star, Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode, the Cure, the Smiths, Morrissey…
She handed my phone back and asked, “Are you ok?”

I did a mountain of drugs in my 20’s, drank an ocean of booze in my 30’s, and became a teetotaler in my 40’s.
The only thing I miss is cigarettes.

My opposition to capitol punishment is grounded in spirituality and ethics, sure, but all of that is debatable.
What is not up for debate is that no system of justice is 100% accurate 100% of the time, and that should be the standard for 100% punishment.
