Cladonia sp.

I've been trying to take more notice of #lichens this year, they are such fascinating organisms.

This lovely lichen, a Trumpet Lichen (Cladonia fimbriata) according to #inaturalist, was growing in the Porongurup National Park in early October

Diuris sp. - Donkey Orchid

Seen in September, this is possibly the Small-flowered Donkey Orchid (Diuris porrifolia) given it was seen in an inland, easterly location and given height of the flowering stem.

Crypsiphona ocultaria - Red-lined Looper

One of the most common moths we see, these moths can be found around in parts of Australia. The reason for the moth’s common name becomes apparent when you see the underside of their wings

Candicarina sp.

Cooler evenings last week meant fewer large moths visiting our Perth Hills moth light, which in turn allowed some smaller #inverts to settle.

Like this very small (~5mm in length) planthopper which is endemic to Australia.

Garrha oncospila

Seen in our Perth Hills garden this week. This moth seems to be endemic to Western Australia, with all 10 observations of it so far on #inaturalist from the southwest. Otherwise, there’s little information on this lovely moth

A cool, still evening last night meant fewer moths to the garden moth light but that made it easier to document some of the micro moth visitors.

This moth was ~3mm long and I think might be in the Family Gelechiidae (Twirler moths)

New study confirms that short wavelength light (UV & blue) attracts the most nocturnal insects & that intensity increases attraction for all colours. Longer wavelength & lower intensity outdoor lights should reduce biodiversity impacts resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... #teammoth 🌍

The weather is definitely heating up in Perth ☀️

Which means wildlife starting to look for water. Had to rescue this lovely Bobtail lizard from the backyard pool today. He’s currently at a wildlife rescue centre for a checkup and will hopefully be back home soon🤞
