I agree fully! I still feel like Discovery's time jump was also them giving into the absolute vile crap online about 'oh it's too advanced looking to be pre-TOS, oh the klingons, oh X, Y, Z!' etc. As much as I like the 32nd Century look. I just worry in general, like you 🖖🏽😥

Ditto. The time some people spend going out of their way to pour hate on something they don't like, instead of just leaving people be, is beyond mindboggling.

I guess another concern is, the academy being handled right too. Starfleet isn't a military (I know, touching on a sensitive topic here for some!) and the sort of chanting mantra in the trailer gave me almost-military vibes. I'm very eager to see more context in January! Excited either way though!

I'm just worried SFA will continue SNW's 'play it safe' mentality (especially around LGBTQIA+ stuff, though a male Klingon in a skant is awesome! And anything that might piss off the right-wing). LD was initially me being VERY hesitant, now I truly think it's probably the best recent Trek IMHO.

Yes, I agree. I think it's mainly the initial concept (a space station, abit of a spicy crew, civs + spaceforce, etc), and the hints of that (and some other details) throughout that you could go 'hey, thats a smidge sus'. But the two stories diverged enough that it's not verbatim by any means.

I was worried I was wrong, but I wasn't! 😅 I thought I remembered the pitch of B5 was to Paramount! Thanks! Would've been so easy to glance at such a good idea, and then be like 'hmm, lets run with this with a few tweaks..' etc. So many bits you could point out honestly in DS9!

And IIRC, on the whole 'Did B5 Steal the concept of DS9' discourse/rumors, is that it was actually DS9 stealing from B5 (I could be wrong). Wouldn't be surprised—B5 is fantastic, and I think does have the superior story over DS9, as much I like DS9. B5 is GoT level of complex/foreshadowing.

I've not seen it, but it sounds good! I think all ideas really with Dax changing host, and it being male, would've been endless opportunity for gay-male storylines. But of course, 90s Trek and Berman's terror of it all, sadly. It seems SNW is also scared to touch on Pike/Spock, or anything queer 😔

Such a missed opportunity for a gay-male storyline, and also one that wasn't a stereotype-feminine-guy trope (that was pretty common at the time). Adding in casually that oh yeah, Worf has always liked dudes, and is quite masculine, would've been such a power move! And pissed off insecure het-guys 😂

Skants are iconic, and practical! It is CRIMINAL we never saw Riker, Worf, and many others, in them! I'm still holding out hope Pike wears one for one episode in SNW (considering the amount of male background characters seen in them!).

I remember this! I've always preferred the shorter nacelles, and this placement of them, over the actual one in the show!

They had big growing pains, but Beyond was 💯 when it felt like they hit their 'season 3/4 we're doing it now!' stride. I would've liked to seen them go on for a few more—they were our small candle of Trek in the 'dark' between ENT and DSC.

Given how long it's been since the last one, unless it was set many years after Beyond, I feel the Pine-era may have had it's time. I too held out hope! Perhaps it's best to hope for a fresh set of movies—new characters, or finally a VOY/DS9 crossover, yass! 🖖🏽

I can't remember exactly where I was, but I remember watching the earliest little 'teaser'(?) that had words along the lines of, 'a new crew' etc. And also the INITIAL Disco design where it came out of an asteroid, and had shorter nacelles (Which I prefer still!). It was such a shock/exciting! 😇
