I had a great time yesterday visiting the first public outing of #TheINVESTIGATIONS, as part of @royalderngate.bsky.social's GENFEST2025. Annis McGee from In Good Company ran the 'core' version of the game - a make-a-show-in-a-day research and storytelling workshop.

Before Fighting Fantasy, before Choose Your Own Adventure, there were Tracker Books. I had these three and was obsessed with them. (Still got 'em, and have acquired a few more from the series recently).

Very pleased to receive my copy of Research & Development in British Theatre, which includes an interview by Karen Quigley with Rachael and I, done just before Third Angel closed. Really great collection of interviews and essays, and we’re in fine company.

Excited to receive my pre-publication copy of Making Interdisciplinary Performance. I’m really pleased to have written a chapter about Third Angel’s cross-disciplinary collaborations for this, covering 28 years of work: Lessons Learnt in Other People’s Classrooms.

We wandered into a #Cthulhu scenario yesterday.

This is what they have made:
"Hold On, Let Me Think…
It began with a task to seek out old telephone booths and developed into a question of listening then, now, and in the future. Bots search for what came before them & the technologies that made them who they are. AI, do you know your limits?"

Just finished @adamroberts.bsky.social‘s By the Pricking of her Thumb, which I loved. It’s the second of two future-set detective novels - both gripping and philosophically absorbing. Highly recommended.

Pretty happy with my town centre buildings and monuments…

Turns out this is quite tricky to photograph… POW Pop Up space window map complete.

I’m drawing it backwards, inside the window, of course…

I’m making a window map mural in Dewsbury with Creative Scene for their POW Pop Up art space. Here’s a work in progress at the end of Day 1…

Doing some local map research in Dewsbury. Found these brilliant old insurance maps in Dewsbury library.

My office for the afternoon in the Mitchell Library, reading about thin places.

Writing a residency application in an empty cafe, getting distracted by the view.

I love this building in #Sheffield. I have long thought it could be the UK [England, Central] office of The Department of Distractions.

This week I got to try out a new 4-song version of my Songmapping project for colleagues and students at Leeds School of Arts. Really useful questions and feedback. I enjoyed this accidental song mash-up I made when clearing away.

The Investigations is a make-a-show-in-a-day/-session theatre devising kit / story-telling game. This is a small first run of playtest versions - still a couple available if you / your students / your group / your youth theatre / your company are interested in trying it out...

Very excited to be assembling the playtest versions of my theatre devising kit / storytelling game, The Investigations.

Spotted this dinosaur trying to escape from a stationery shop… clearly so good at hiding the painters didn’t spot it.

Next Wednesday I'm SONGMAPPING at the Drawing Articulations symposium at Leeds School of Arts (where I teach). A songmap is a drawing of a song done in the time it takes to play the song. This is an attempt at Jefferson Airplane's WHITE RABBIT, a tricky 2m31s!

First performance today of gobscure's new show, 'yu have already survived' at Live Theatre, Newcastle. A beautiful storytelling journey along the Avon Wysg (River Usk), taking in punk gigs, poetry, insurrection, re-wilding, carrion birds, post-trauma growth, and a lot of FRAGILE tape.
